Your
son or daughter and his/her core teachers are currently preparing
for the student directed conferences. We are organizing samples
of student work and reflecting on them; and we are setting
goals and assessing our use of organizational tools and habits.
|
 |
 |
As
a team, we will model and practice student directed conferencing
so that each student is prepared and comfortable for this new
activity. Our school is sponsoring student directed conferences
because they support our goals of fostering student ownership
and responsibility in the learning process. During the conference,
your child will share with you representative examples of their
work; discuss personal strengths, growth plans and goals for
their academic future. Your child’s seminar teacher will
serve as a guide and support as your child runs the conference
and answers your questions. |

Directed Conference FAQs
- What
are student-directed conferences?
Student-led conferences are a chance for your child to talk to
you about what kind of student he/she is now, the kind of student
he/she wants to be and how he/she can get there with your help.
Together, you will review how your child is doing in each class.
Sharing examples of work and discussing 1st Quarter grades for
each class is on the agenda. Together, you and your child will
discuss their progress in the following academic areas: Language
Arts, Math, Social Studies, and Science. You will be celebrating
his/her successes as well as plans for growth during the remainder
of the school year.
- Who
attends student-led conferences? Parents
attend with their middle school son or daughter.
- Where
are the student-led conferences held? They are
held in your child’s classroom.
- How
long do they last? 20 minutes.
- When
will I know what time I am to be there? You will
receive an appointment schedule and letter in early November with
a suggested time. You will confirm that time, or suggest a better
time for you.
- Will
I have a chance to talk with each core teacher?
Not during these 20 minutes, but you will be given the opportunity
to make an appointment to talk with a teacher at a later time.
- What
should I bring? Your child, Student Binder, and
Student Conference Folder (usually kept in the classroom)
